Attorney General Michael Mukasey has appointed a special counsel this Monday to fully investigate and prosecute the case of the improper mass-firings of 9 U.S. Attorneys by former Bush Administration Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez. The belated action by Mukasey has garnered praise from Senators who have, themselves, been looking into the highly unusual dismissals for trumped-up reasons. The actions by Gonzalez were apparently motivated entirely by partisan political goals, not public policy goals.
